Former Presidential aide, Bashir Ahmad, has publicly corrected US Congressman Riley Moore following Moore’s social media comment regarding the abduction of 25 female students from the Government Girls Comprehensive Senior Secondary School (GGCSS), Maga, Danko Wasagu, in Kebbi State.
The tragic incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday, November 17, has drawn widespread national and international condemnation.
Reacting to the development on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Moore described the attack as “heartbreaking,” calling for prayers for the kidnapped girls and the repose of the soul of the school’s Vice Principal, who was k!lled during the attack. Moore further claimed that the incident happened “in a Christian enclave in Northern Nigeria.”
Bashir Ahmad, however, quickly responded to correct the US lawmaker’s assertion. Ahmad disagreed with Moore’s characterization of the community, writing that the attack did not occur in a Christian-dominated area.
According to Ahmad:
“Contrary to your claim, the incident did not happen in a Christian enclave. The community where this unfortunate attack occurred is predominantly Muslim.”
His response has since generated conversation online, with many Nigerians emphasizing the importance of accurate representation in international commentary on local security issues.
The exchange between Bashir Ahmad and Riley Moore has further highlighted the intense global scrutiny around insecurity in Northern Nigeria, especially regarding repeated attacks on schools.
