A young man has been allegedly killed following a violent dispute over a phone charger in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The victim, identified as Chisom Uba, reportedly lost his life during a confrontation with his cousin, Chukwuemeka Uba, on December 17.
According to reports, the incident began after Chisom, said to be 20 years old, had earlier lent his phone charger to his cousin. Trouble reportedly started when Chisom later went to retrieve the charger, leading to a heated argument between the two men.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical altercation, during which Chukwuemeka allegedly stabbed Chisom multiple times. The suspect’s father, Kenneth Uba, who is also Chisom’s uncle, was accused of joining in the attack, which ultimately resulted in the young man’s death.
A post announcing the incident read: “In Ihiala, Chisom was k!lled by his cousin over a dispute involving a phone charger.
“Chisom had reportedly lent out the charger to his cousin and later went to collect it, but there was a disagreement, and his cousin stabbed him multiple times during the fight. It was also reported that the cousin’s father (Chisom’s uncle) joined in the attack.”
The platform further claimed that both the uncle and cousin were later arrested by security operatives. It was also alleged that enraged youths in the community set the uncle’s house ablaze following the incident.
Meanwhile, a video circulating online shows the deceased lying lifeless on a hospital bed, as grieving relatives wept uncontrollably over his body.
Speaking emotionally in front of the burnt house, Chisom’s mother, Prophetess Ebere Uba, accused the suspects of brutally murdering her son.
She said, “Because of charger, they took my child inside and k!lled him. They k!lled him inside the room with a knife. A new knife. The youths brough the knife out of the room.”
Ebere Uba further disclosed that her son’s remains have been deposited in a mortuary, while confirming that the suspects involved in the alleged attack have been apprehended by the authorities.
Police authorities are yet to release an official statement on the matter as investigations are reportedly ongoing.
