Big Brother Naija Season 7 winner, Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has publicly accused the Dangote Group of reneging on its promise to fund her sister’s medical treatment abroad after a devastating accident involving one of the company’s trucks.
According to reports, Phyna’s younger sister, Ruth Otabor, was hit on August 13, 2025, near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, by a Dangote truck allegedly driven by an underage and unlicensed driver. The tragic incident happened just six days after Ruth graduated from school, leaving her with life-altering injuries, including the amputation of her left leg, while her right leg remains at risk.
In an emotional update shared on Wednesday, Phyna revealed that visiting her sister in person opened her eyes to the severity of Ruth’s condition, which she says is far worse than initially reported.
The reality TV star explained that she had been in continuous talks with officials of the Dangote Group, who initially agreed to sponsor Ruth’s treatment in India. However, Ruth was first transferred to Lagoon Hospital in Lagos, where Phyna was asked to provide a comprehensive medical report.
Despite submitting the documents as requested, Phyna claimed the company later backtracked, insisting they would seek additional medical advice before making a final decision. She added that Dangote officials demanded another confirmation report from Lagoon Hospital, stating that Ruth’s condition could not be managed locally.
Expressing her frustration, Phyna disclosed that the company representative she had been liaising with has ignored her messages for more than 24 hours, leaving her uncertain about the sincerity of the company’s promises.
Calling on Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, to personally intervene, Phyna pleaded for immediate action to save her sister’s life.
“My sister’s life must not be put at risk. She needs urgent care, and it’s beyond what local hospitals can handle. Dangote must keep to their words,” she said.
The incident has sparked widespread attention online, with many Nigerians urging the Dangote Group to take responsibility and honor its commitment to Ruth’s medical care.
