Popular Nigerian travel filmmaker Tayo Aina has revealed the emotional and practical reasons behind his decision to spend $150,000 on a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport, describing it as an investment in “freedom and access.”
Speaking on the podcast Am I Too Loud?, Tayo recounted a frustrating experience where he was denied a visa twice despite being invited as a guest speaker at a major international creators’ conference in Dubai.
“I was invited as a speaker alongside big creators like Casey Neistat at the NAS Summit. I’d been to Dubai twice before, but they denied me twice — just because I was Nigerian,” he said.
The YouTuber, known for his high-quality travel documentaries and inspiring storytelling, explained that this was not the first time his Nigerian passport had posed challenges. Even within Africa, he faced several instances of discrimination and travel restrictions.
“I’ve had issues in Ethiopia, South Africa… they’ve either held my passport or denied me entry. But that Dubai experience broke me,” Tayo admitted.
According to him, missing the opportunity to network with top global creators was the breaking point that changed his outlook on travel freedom.
“That day I told myself — never again. My biggest goal in life is freedom. Freedom to be wherever I want, whenever I want, with whoever I want,” he said passionately.
Determined to take control of his mobility, Tayo decided to invest in dual citizenship by obtaining a Saint Kitts and Nevis passport, one of the world’s most powerful travel documents that grants visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to over 150 countries.
“I just saved up and bought the passport. That decision changed everything for me,” he added.
Since acquiring the new passport, Tayo Aina has continued to expand his global presence, documenting cultures and experiences that inspire millions of his followers. His story highlights the growing frustration among Nigerians and other citizens of developing countries who face travel inequality despite their professional achievements.
