Over 300 persons have been displaced and 30 houses reduced to ashes following coordinated attacks by gunmen in seven communities of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area (LGA), Plateau State.
The attacks, which occurred late Tuesday, wreaked havoc on farmers as several food barns were also destroyed. Although no lives were lost, the destruction left hundreds of families homeless and in dire need of shelter and relief materials.
The latest incident comes barely six days after four herders were killed and one other injured in Fili village, Doemak District of the same local government area. According to herders, the earlier attack happened while the victims were grazing their animals.
Confirming the fresh attacks, the spokesman of Qua’an Pan LG Council, Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, said the council chairman, Christopher Manship, had visited the affected communities, which include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom in Doemak District.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, Sylvanus noted:
“The Executive Chairman of Qua’an Pan Local Government Area, Christopher Manship, lamented over the attacks and urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and development associations to join hands with him to work towards a permanent solution to the attacks.”
He further revealed that the LG chairman had mobilized security operatives to the affected areas to ensure peace and order are restored.
“The Chairman has mobilized security agencies to the affected areas to ensure the situation is brought under control. We are working tirelessly to restore peace and normalcy to the communities,” Sylvanus added.
A stakeholders meeting was also convened with community leaders, religious figures, and traditional rulers, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence regardless of ethnoreligious differences.
Security personnel have since been deployed to the troubled communities to restore calm, while residents are urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements.
