In a disturbing twist of betrayal, the Enugu State Police Command has arrested two sisters—Juliet Chukwu and Ngozi Nancy Chukwu—for allegedly orchestrating the kidnapping of their elder brother, Mr. Friday Chukwu, and collecting a ransom of ₦30 million.
The suspects, both personnel of Nigerian security agencies—Juliet with the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Ngozi with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS)—are believed to have staged the abduction last month along the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, near the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku-Ozalla, in Nkanu West Local Government Area.
According to sources close to the investigation, the sisters lured and coordinated the attack that led to their brother’s kidnapping. The victim, Mr. Friday Chukwu, is a native of Amaeze village in Ishiagu, Ivo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Shockingly, the same sisters have also been linked to another abduction—that of Engineer Dennis Igwe, General Manager of China Oriental Mining Company, who was kidnapped earlier this week in the same area. A ₦10 million ransom was reportedly paid for his release.
Police say operatives tracked the duo to a hotel where they were allegedly caught red-handed attempting to share the ransom money. Four other members of the suspected kidnapping syndicate are currently on the run.
Chief Emmanuel Ajah, Chairman of Ivo Local Government Area, confirmed the arrests and expressed concern over the security implications.
“Though the incidents occurred outside my jurisdiction, the safety of our people remains a top priority,” he said.
Community sources claim the sisters may be part of a broader criminal network operating in the Ishiagu area, with alleged ties to acts of vandalism and collaboration with external gangs.
Efforts to obtain a response from the Ebonyi State Police Command were unsuccessful, as Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, did not respond to inquiries at the time of filing this report.
Police authorities have assured the public that investigations are ongoing and a manhunt is underway to apprehend the remaining suspects.
