Intelligence agencies from Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso have announced plans to reveal the identities of senior Nigerian politicians allegedly aiding bandit groups operating in Nigeria’s North-West region.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed that officials from these agencies confirmed they already possess the names of some politicians suspected of offering support to the armed groups. According to him, “they have also apprehended certain individuals involved in the supply of weapons to the bandits, and investigations are actively ongoing.”
The intelligence agencies explained that this move is part of a broader regional effort to dismantle cross-border criminal networks responsible for fueling instability in West Africa.
This development highlights the growing security collaboration among Sahelian nations as they intensify the fight against armed groups, illegal arms trafficking, and other threats that undermine regional peace and stability.
If the names are made public, it could significantly reshape Nigeria’s domestic political landscape and put pressure on the government to act decisively against collaborators enabling insecurity.
