A heartbreaking story has emerged from China as popular livestreamer Chen Meiying, aged 39, has died following a prolonged battle with triple-negative breast cancer, just months after announcing to her followers that she had been “cured.”
Chen, a mother of one from Chongqing, passed away on October 12 after courageously documenting her year-long struggle with the aggressive form of cancer.
Her diagnosis in 2024 dramatically altered her life. Forced to close her small clothing store, Chen watched as mounting hospital bills consumed her family’s savings. In an effort to support herself and her teenage daughter, she began livestreaming on TikTok, where she sang traditional Chinese songs and interacted warmly with viewers who donated to help with her treatment.
On April 16, Chen surprised her fans by removing her IV line on camera and joyfully announcing, “I’m cured!” The moment went viral, with thousands celebrating what seemed like a miraculous recovery.
However, just two months later, tragedy struck when her cancer returned and spread aggressively to her bones and internal mammary lymph nodes. Doctors informed her there were no curative options left — only treatments to help prolong her life.
Despite her deteriorating health, Chen refused to give up. Her teenage daughter, who was in her final year of high school, remained her greatest source of strength. Even in pain, Chen insisted on maintaining her daily routine, including taking her daughter to school.
Chen’s final social media post came on September 22, where she thanked her supporters and shared hopeful words. By September 26, her condition worsened, and she was admitted to the hospital once again.
She passed away on October 12 and was laid to rest in her hometown days later. Chen is survived by her elderly mother and daughter, who continues to inspire followers with her late mother’s story of resilience and courage.
Chen Meiying’s journey touched millions across China, highlighting the human cost of battling cancer — and the unyielding strength of a mother’s love.
