Police Arrest Woman for Allegedly Burning Maid’s Private Part in Imo
The Imo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old businesswoman, Juliet Igwe, for allegedly torturing her six-year-old maid, identified simply as Onyinyechi, by burning her private part with candlelight and inflicting multiple injuries across her body.
Parading the suspect before journalists, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Henry Okoye, revealed that the abuse was far more extensive than initially reported. He explained that Igwe not only burned the minor’s private part but also poured hot water on the child, peeling off the skin on both of her hands. According to him, she further used candle wax to inflict additional injuries on the helpless girl.
Okoye stated that Igwe was apprehended following credible intelligence received by operatives of the Ideato North Divisional Police Headquarters, who immediately launched an investigation into the disturbing allegation.
During an interview with reporters, the suspect admitted to harming the child, although she attempted to claim ignorance of the severity of her actions.
According to her, “I didn’t know that the use of candle wax and boiled water on the girl child was going to cause grievous damage to her.”
Igwe further alleged that the child had stolen meat from her pot, insisting that the punishment was meant to “forestall future recurrence.” Her justification has since sparked outrage among rights activists and members of the public.
SP Okoye confirmed that the suspect would be charged to court soon, assuring that the command remains committed to securing justice for the young victim and prosecuting all forms of child abuse in the state.
