The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed that the young woman identified as Mirabel, who recently made a viral rape allegation, is currently in police custody.
Mirabel had earlier appeared in a widely circulated video claiming that she was raped by an unidentified man. The video sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, with many calling for swift action and justice.
However, in a surprising development on Thursday, February 19, Mirabel reportedly admitted that the rape allegation was false.
Providing an update on the matter, the spokesperson for the command, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that she is now being held by the authorities.
Speaking in a chat with LIB on February 20, the police spokesperson said Mirabel is currently in the command’s custody. He added that she is in good health and assured the public that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
“Mirabel is now in the command’s custody. She is healthy, and investigation into the case is still ongoing.”
The police have not yet provided further details regarding possible charges or the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have urged members of the public to refrain from spreading unverified information while the matter is being thoroughly examined.
The case continues to generate reactions online, as many Nigerians debate the legal and social implications of making false criminal allegations.
