Nollywood actress and activist Iyabo Ojo has reacted to a series of disturbing viral videos showing groups of men publicly cursing her and accusing her of derailing the campaign for justice in the case of late singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad.
Over the past 48 hours, videos have surfaced online showing individuals parading the streets of Lagos with placards bearing images of Iyabo Ojo and the late Mohbad. The men, some of whom hurled disturbing threats and curses, alleged that the actress had obstructed the pursuit of justice in the controversial case surrounding the young singer’s untimely death.
One of the men, believed to be leading the protest, even referenced the recent fire incident at Iyabo Ojo’s business premises, suggesting that it was just the beginning of more “hardships” to come for her and her family.
In a swift response shared on her official Instagram page, Iyabo Ojo clarified her involvement in the justice for Mohbad movement. She revealed that the National Cybercrime Unit of the Nigerian Police Force had recently invited her to testify following several petitions alleging that she had falsely implicated individuals in connection to Mohbad’s death.
Setting the record straight, Ojo stated that she had never directly accused anyone of involvement in the singer’s demise. According to her, she merely called for a thorough police investigation and urged certain individuals to make themselves available for questioning as part of efforts to uncover the truth.
The actress also disclosed that her advocacy has made her a target of coordinated online and offline attacks. She recounted receiving threatening messages, including a chilling letter warning that she would be sent to “hell” within three months—a threat she said came shortly before her daughter’s wedding in Tanzania.
Ojo further noted that this isn’t the first time she’s faced backlash for her outspoken stance. During the 2023 general elections, she was also subjected to trolling and personal attacks due to her political views.
Despite the rising hostility, Iyabo Ojo affirmed her resilience and unwavering faith. “I hold on to God in times like this,” she wrote, expressing hope that truth and justice will ultimately prevail.
Recall the letter written by Aloba Ilerioluwa to the Inspector General of Police in June 2023, accusing certain individuals of launching an attack on him.
Meanwhile, certain individuals were seen, displaying placards of Iyabo Ojo with a threat to her life.
All this came after the actress’s office was set ablaze a few days ago.
