President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has applauded Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a Nigerian student who emerged as the top performer at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals held in London, United Kingdom, where she outshone over 20,000 participants from 69 countries—including native English speakers.
In a statement released on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Nafisa as an “exceptional young Nigerian” whose achievement demonstrates the great potential and excellence of Nigerian youth on the international stage.
Nafisa, a 17-year-old student of Nigerian Tulip International College (NTIC) in Yobe State, was crowned the overall best in English language skills at the prestigious global event. President Tinubu praised her remarkable talent and reaffirmed his belief in the bright future of the nation. “The nation’s future is much brighter with many of its youth as repositories of excellence,” he stated.
He also extended his commendation to the schools that have nurtured such high-achieving students, noting that their efforts reflect the strength and promise of Nigeria’s educational system.
Alongside Nafisa, other Nigerian students—Rukayya Ashiru and Hadiza Ibrahim—were also recognized for their stellar performances, making the country proud and further emphasizing Nigeria’s growing global reputation in academic excellence.
Reiterating his administration’s commitment to education, President Tinubu highlighted the launch of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) as a major policy designed to eliminate financial obstacles for students pursuing higher education.
Meanwhile, former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Ali Pantami, took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle to urge the Federal Government to give Nafisa the same level of national recognition typically accorded to outstanding athletes.
Pantami proposed a $100,000 reward, a three-bedroom apartment, and a national honour for Nafisa, mirroring the accolades given to the Super Falcons and D’Tigress. He also emphasized the need to reward her English teacher, stating that mentorship plays a critical role in nurturing talent.
He lauded Nafisa’s triumph as a testament to “dedication, discipline, and a strong support system from her family and school.” Pantami concluded by urging the presidency to invite both Nafisa and her teacher for official recognition, asserting that academic excellence deserves equal national celebration as sporting victories.
