Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has threatened to sue Nigerian lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, over alleged defamatory remarks made against him on social media. The move marks a new twist in the growing clash between the men.
In a demand notice issued by Obi’s legal representatives, Ejesimen & Co Madiba Chambers, Adeyanju was accused of repeatedly publishing “derogatory and defamatory statements” against Obi on various online platforms, particularly X (formerly Twitter).
The legal team cited Adeyanju’s long-standing criticisms of Obi, including a previous allegation in which the activist claimed the ex-governor once attempted to bribe him.
“He tried to give me money and called it thank you for coming, it’s 100% true,” Adeyanju alleged in an earlier post, suggesting that Obi wanted to buy his loyalty.
More recently, on August 21, Adeyanju accused Obi of investing state funds into a company allegedly linked to his family during his tenure as governor.
Adeyanju Mocks Obi’s Legal Threat
Reacting to the demand letter, Adeyanju dismissed Obi’s threat and ridiculed him in a Facebook post.
“Just got this letter from Peter Obi, the religious bigot, demanding a retraction from me. I laughed so hard. I can’t wait to meet him in court finally. A fraud parading himself as a messiah,” Adeyanju wrote.
The activist further alleged that he had earlier sued Obi’s aide, Serah Ibrahim, accusing her of making defamatory comments about his wife.
“We served his little errand girl, Serah, a letter to retract all her defamatory publications on Monday against my wife, and she ran to the leader of the mob for help. Obi cannot save her, and I am ready for him in court 100%. Super happy he sent that letter. It proves what we have always suspected; he is the one sending them to defame people online because they are his aides,” he said.
Serah Ibrahim Responds
Defending herself, Serah Ibrahim maintained that she never called Mrs Adeyanju a prostitute but only mocked her for sharing suggestive pictures online.
“I only said she constantly posts pics of butt, the kind you’d typically see on OnlyFans wannabe. I didn’t say she’s a whore. But if he wants to call his wife a whore, who am I to disagree?” she stated.
A Long-Running Feud
Deji Adeyanju has been a persistent critic of Peter Obi, often dismissing his presidential ambitions and clashing with Obi’s supporters, popularly known as the Obidients.
Obi’s lawyers are now demanding a public retraction and unreserved apology from Adeyanju, failing which the case will be taken to court. Adeyanju, however, insists he is ready to meet Obi in court.
