The National Assembly has officially postponed its resumption of plenary activities from Tuesday, September 23, 2025, to Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
This development was disclosed in a statement issued by the Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, and made available to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, September 23.
According to Ogunlana, the adjustment was made at the directive of the presiding officers of both chambers of the federal legislature.
Quoting the statement, he said:
“I am directed by the presiding officers of both Chambers of the National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to inform all members of the National Assembly and the general public that the resumption date of the National Assembly earlier scheduled for Tuesday, 23rd September, 2025, is postponed to Tuesday, 7th October, 2025.”
While the new date affects plenary sessions, the Clerk clarified that standing and ad-hoc committees will continue their legislative engagements during the recess.
He further appealed to lawmakers and stakeholders to take note of the change, adding:
“All Distinguished Senators and Honourable Members are requested to take note of the new date and adjust their schedules accordingly. Any inconvenience caused by this rescheduling is deeply regretted.”
The National Assembly had earlier adjourned for its annual recess on July 23, 2025, with lawmakers initially expected to reconvene on September 23, 2025, to commence the final quarter of legislative business for the year.
With the new date fixed for October 7, political observers note that the shift may slightly affect the legislative calendar, especially as the year winds down.
