Veteran Nollywood actress Bukky Wright has revealed she is open to giving marriage another shot, despite experiencing five unsuccessful unions.
In a candid interview with BBC Yoruba, the 58-year-old screen icon spoke about her personal life, challenges abroad, and her recent return to the film industry. Reflecting on her journey, Wright said she remains hopeful about finding love again, though she insists it’s ultimately up to divine will.
“On the issue of marriage, I’m still very much interested, but only if it is destined by God. It’s not a do-or-die affair,” she said. “I’m not discouraging other women from marrying—marriage is a beautiful thing. I still desire it too.”
Wright added that during a recent pilgrimage to Al Kaaba, she specifically prayed for a second chance at love. “That’s how much I desire it,” she emphasized. “And I know God answers prayers.”
Bukky Wright’s marital history has been a subject of public interest. Her first marriage was to Gboyega Amu, with whom she has two sons. Following their split over what she described as irreconcilable differences, she married actor-turned-politician Rotimi Makinde.
Her third marriage was to society journalist Femi Davies, with whom she had a private wedding ceremony at the Akoko Registry in Lagos. She later married music promoter Bolaji Saheed, and finally, in 2010, tied the knot with US-based businessman Adewale Onitiri. That union also ended in divorce.
Despite these setbacks, Wright remains optimistic. Her resilience and openness about love and loss continue to inspire fans who have followed her decades-long career both on and off screen.
