Tension has enveloped Amakohia-Ubi community in Owerri-West Local Government Area of Imo State following the gruesome discovery of a local vigilante, Uche Ejiofor, who went missing after a violent clash between herdsmen and community security operatives.
Ejiofor, who was reportedly abducted during the confrontation on Wednesday, August 19, 2025, was found dead on Friday, August 22, in a nearby bush. His body was severely mutilated, with multiple stab wounds suggesting he was tortured before being killed.
A community source, who spoke to The Nation, revealed how the body was discovered. “His body was badly stabbed. We suspect they may have attempted to shoot him but failed, then resorted to butchering him,” the source lamented.
Deadly Herdsmen Clash in Imo State
The violent incident erupted when local vigilantes attempted to stop herdsmen from invading and destroying farmlands. This confrontation escalated into bloodshed, leading to the abduction of Ejiofor and the killing of another vigilante member.
The attack sparked widespread panic in the community, with many residents abandoning their homes out of fear of reprisal.
One displaced resident shared his fears, saying: “For me, I’m not returning soon, but I can go back in the morning. Sleeping there is what I can’t guarantee.”
Growing Calls for Government Action
Ejiofor’s body has since been deposited in the morgue. Meanwhile, residents and community leaders are calling on the Imo State Government and security agencies to take urgent steps to curb the recurring clashes between herdsmen and local communities.
The brutal murder has once again raised concerns over rising insecurity in rural areas of Nigeria, where farmers and herders frequently clash over land and grazing rights.
