Slain Businessman, Fish Magnate Buried in Aguata Amidst Grief
The atmosphere was filled with anguish and sorrow on August 27, 2025, as family, friends, and sympathizers gathered at Eziakpu Village, Ikenga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, to bury slain businessman Mr. Martins Ifesinachi Onyekesi, popularly known as Fish Magnate.
Onyekesi, a well-known fish processor and seller who actively promoted his trade on social media, was brutally killed last month after being abducted by unknown gunmen. His lifeless body was later abandoned in a nearby town, with instructions given to his family to retrieve it.
At his burial ceremony on Thursday, emotions ran high as mourners wept uncontrollably while his body was laid to rest. The event was solemn and brief, with minimal speeches except for the prayers offered by his family at the graveside.
Representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Onyeka Ibezim, attended the burial, underscoring the government’s acknowledgment of the tragic incident.
The death of Fish Magnate has continued to draw widespread reactions. Popular activist Martins Otse, widely known as Very Dark Man, had earlier led a protest in Anambra State, demanding an end to the growing wave of killings and insecurity in the region.
