Tragic Death After Cosmetic Surgery
A 14-year-old girl, identified as Paloma Nicole Arellano Escobedo, has died following a breast augmentation and butt lift procedure that was allegedly carried out without her father’s knowledge.
Paloma passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in a hospital in Durango, Mexico, after slipping into a coma caused by brain swelling and heart complications linked to the surgery. The procedure reportedly took place a week before her death, according to El Siglo de Durango.
Father Learns the Truth After Funeral
Her grieving father, Carlos Arellano, said he was initially misled about the cause of death.
“I was told she had died from complications related to Covid-19,” he revealed. “At the funeral, some relatives told me her breasts looked larger than before. When I confronted her mother, she denied it.”
Carlos later examined his daughter’s body with the help of relatives.
“Sure enough: she had breast implants. We have photographs of the implants and the scars. We immediately requested an autopsy,” he stated in his complaint.
Mother and Surgeon Boyfriend Under Investigation
Reports indicate that Paloma’s mother allegedly consented to the surgery, which was performed by her 45-year-old boyfriend, Víctor ‘N’, a local plastic surgeon who owned the practice.
The Durango Attorney General, Yadira de la Garza Fragoso, confirmed that authorities are investigating both the mother and the surgeon.
“We are investigating a probable lack of care on the part of the mother for placing a minor who was under her care and custody in risky situations,” Fragoso said.
The surgeon’s medical license has since been suspended while investigators determine whether the case amounts to medical malpractice, negligent homicide, or other crimes. Results from the official autopsy could take over 10 days.
Legal and Ethical Concerns Over Teen Plastic Surgery
While Mexico does not have a specific legal age limit for cosmetic procedures, patients under 18 generally require consent from both parents. In this case, Paloma’s father alleges he was deliberately kept in the dark.
Carlos accused his ex-wife and her partner of staging a “cover-up,” directly blaming them for his daughter’s tragic death.
Call for Justice and Awareness
In response to the tragedy, Paloma’s father has launched a public campaign warning families about the dangers of unnecessary cosmetic surgery on minors. A march is scheduled for Friday, September 26, under the slogan:
“Girls don’t need implants.”
Carlos emphasized on Instagram:
“We cannot continue to normalize the sexualization of girls or allow the ambition of some adults to put their lives at risk. We demand justice and that this crime does not go unpunished. Girls deserve to grow up free, safe, and respected.”
